Standards
All
agencies that host Admiral Nurse teams have their own standards.
However, it was felt to be important to have an agreed set
of standards specific to the Admiral Nurse Service, which
complement and enhance employing trusts’ standards.
Why have Admiral Nurse Service standards?

To take a coherent approach to improve the quality of care
for people with dementia and their carers.
•
To ensure that carers and people with dementia experience
a consistent and high quality service, wherever they may be.
•
To help make carers and others aware of what they can expect
from the Service.
•
To help articulate the evidence base for the Admiral Nurse
Service.

Where do the standards come
from?
•
Initially, the work of the Admiral Nurse Service Standards
Working Group made up of Admiral Nurses and for dementia staff.
•
The on-going work of the Standing Committee on Admiral Nurse
Service Standards (SCANSS), made up of Admiral Nurses, for
dementia staff, family carers, service managers, and chaired
by for dementia Trustee, John Tait.
•
All Admiral Nurses, their managers, for dementia staff, Admiral
Nurse Service Advisory Committee members.
Who is responsible for putting
these standards into action?

Admiral Nurses and their managers locally
•
for dementia plays a central role and has an overview of all
services.
How will they be monitored?

By gathering data from the AMANDA database

By asking clients of the service what they think
