TIME MANAGEMENT AND GETTING THE BEST
OUT OF MEETINGS
Course Aim: To discuss the best way to manage your
time effectively and give advice and guidance on handling
time constraints and managing workloads. The second half of
the course will discuss the best way to prepare for and run
a meeting and gives advice and guidance on handling difficult
people during the meeting. A great course for newly appointed
team leaders and managers who have not had to run meetings
in the past.

DEVELOPING SERVICES: CONSULTING AND INVOLVING PEOPLE WITH
DEMENTIA AND THEIR CARERS
Course Aim: To explore the principles of service-user
involvement in the planning, delivery and evaluation of services
and introduce tools and techniques that can be used to engage
people with dementia and their carers.

ALCOHOL AND DEMENTIA
NEW!
Course Aim: This course aims to give an overview about
the various aspects of working with people with alcohol problems
and Dementia. People with alcohol problems make up a small
but significant number of older service users and about one
third of those will go on to develop a Dementia. Diagnosis
and strategies will be discussed, as well as common dilemmas
in caring for this group. New thinking about Alcohol Related
Brain Injury will be outlined and the most common types described.
In addition, staff will have a chance to explore some of the
challenging behaviour that clients may display.

ENABLING COMMUNICATION FOR PEOLE
WITH DEMENTIA
Course Aim: To provide opportunities for staff who
work with people with dementia to explore practical ways to
improve communication skills. Emphasis is placed on communication
between staff to staff, service user to staff and staff to
relatives/family.

BEHAVIOUR THAT CHALLENGES
Course Aim: To consider the changes in behaviour that
may happen as a result of dementia, the factors that may contribute
to behaviour that ‘challenges’ and how care-workers
can develop strategies for avoiding and/or managing difficult
situations.

OLDER PEOPLE PERSONAL RELATIONSHIPS
AND SEXUALITY
Course Aim: To explore values and tools to facilitate
individuals experiencing change and transition in their lives.
These person-centered tools and processes, whilst developed
within the area of learning disability, have proven to be
effective when supporting people with dementia and those close
to them.

ADOPTING PERSON-CENTRED APPROACHES
FOR PEOPLE WITH DEMENTIA
Course Aim: To provide a more in- depth knowledge of
dementia, practise skills and explore the issues surrounding
a person centred approach to dementia care. This course is
for staffs who have already attended our ‘Introduction
to Dementia Course.’

ACTIVITY GROUPS WITH PEOPLE WITH
DEMENTIA
Course Aim: To provide staff with an understanding
of the principles and best practice in activity work with
people with dementia. The course will introduce the PAL instrument
and how it can be used to review care planning.

RECORDING SKILLS AND WRITING CARE PLANS
Course Aim: This course will focus on the importance
of care planning as an effective means of communicating, in
order that service users are understood, and that their needs
are met in accordance with their wishes. Minimum Care Standards
require all care services to keep written records secure,
up to date and in good order. This course provides an overview
of the importance of good record keeping and practical guidelines
on writing good records and creating care plans.

Course Aims: To provide staff who have already undertaken
the 'Introduction to Dementia' and ‘Dementia: Advanced
Skills’ courses or who influence care practice with
more in-depth knowledge of dementia and explore key concepts
relating to the care of people with dementia.
